SPECIAL TIPS TO PREVENT MOTHS

Moths require only three things to survive and breed food, shade, and privacy. Most moth damage to wool occurs as the item is being stored. If you begin noticing a pepper like sandy debris on the floor or in bottoms of boxes and drawers you have a serious moth infestation somewhere nearby. Moth damage to wool clothes begins without most people realizing it before it's too late. Prevention is the best method of caring for wool clothes however, if you already have an infestation of moths special techniques must be employed to eradicate them.

MOTH GUARD is not an insecticide it is only a protection agent. So if you already have moths you must kill them. You must first remove the moth larvae and all eggs by thorough cleaning either at home or by professional cleaners. Inspect all seams and hems because moths are secretive. Thoroughly brush away all embedded cocoons and shake the garment vigorously. If the item is small enough place it in a microwave oven for 10 seconds. Note: Remove all metal items such as zippers, buttons, etc. Wash the item with mild soap and water then rinse. Pay close attention to any food stains as moths are particularly attracted to our normal food proteins and cooking oils. Then once the items are completely free of moths you can spray MOTH GUARD to protect them from future infestations. While you are cleaning the woolen items you should spray the contaminated drawer, shelf, closet etcetera with an insecticide. Pay close attention to the under surfaces of furniture, shelves, and drawers for suspended cocoon casings.

Also check all cracks and joints of wooden furniture or closets for casings. Even check the cracks in wall paneling and all wooden floor butt joints and corner moldings where gaps may reveal casings. The corrugations in cardboard boxes may harbor many moths and must be discarded. Remove all cocoon casings by hand or vacuum and then spray insecticide in the area.

Tip: The color of moth cocoon casings usually indicates the same color as the consumed wool item. So carefully check wool items of the same color for damage.
